ROUND ONE: 40 MINUTES PREP TIME & 60 MINUTES TO RISE
- Melt 6 tablespoons of butter.
- Take out ⅓ cup buttermilk and ½ cup whole milk from the refrigerator and bring to room temperature.
- Beat 2 eggs and bring to room temperature.
- Sift 4 cups all-purpose flour.
- Grease a large bowl.
- In a small bowl mix
- ⅓ cup hot water
- ¼ teaspoon sugar
- a package of yeast.
- Let mixture sit for a few minutes until it is foamy.
- Pour yeast mixture into a large bowl.
- To the bowl add:
- ½ cup sugar
- ⅓ cup buttermilk
- ½ cup whole milk
- 6 tablespoons melted butter
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
- 2 beaten eggs
- Mix until combined.
- Mix in;
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- Gradually mix in 4 cups all-purpose sifted flour a little at a time.
- Once dough has formed place the ball of dough into a large, lightly greased bowl.
- Cover with plastic wrap and place the bowl in a warm location.
- Let sit for about 1 hour or until the dough has doubled in size.
ROUND TWO: 20 MINUTES PREP TIME & 60 MINUTES TO RISE
- Melt ½ cup butter and add a dash of vanilla extract.
- Gently punch the dough to release the air.
- Sprinkle your work surface with flour.
- Roll the dough ball into a small rectangle
- The roll it out to a large rectangle that is about ¼ inch thick
- Brush the dough with half of the melted butter/vanilla extract (¼ cup)
- In a small bowl mix together:
- 1⅓ cup brown sugar.
- 2 tablespoons cinnamon.
- Sprinkle on half the brown sugar & cinnamon mixture.
- Brush with (¼ cup) remaining butter
- Add remaining brown sugar mixture.
- Starting from the end furthest from you, begin tightly rolling up the dough.
- When done, place the roll seam-side down, and carefully slice the roll into 14 (1½-inch) sections.
- Place the rolls in a greased baking pan,sides touching.
- Cover with plastic wrap and place in a warm location to let rise.
ROUND THREE: 10 MINUTES PREP TIME & 20 MINUTES BAKE TIME
- Preheat oven to 350 F.
- Bake for 20 minutes or until sides of cinnamon rolls are lightly golden.
- Place foil on to of rolls 10 minutes in to keep the tops from browning too much.
- Remove from oven and let cool while you make the icing.
- In a medium bowl combine:
- 5 ounces cream cheese
- ¼ cup melted butter
- 4 tablespoons milk
- 1½ cups powdered sugar
- ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
- pinch of salt
- Mix until smooth.
- Add the icing.
- Serve immediately.
